Configuring Email on Blackberry Without BIS

Recently I was having problem in configuring email on Blackberry Bold. The in-built email client of Blackberry was showing only work email account with Blackberry Enterprise Server option.

I have not activated BIS on my mobile plan and hence a connection to the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) cannot be established. I'm interested in accessing emails only through WiFi and hence not having any BIS plan.

After having a play around on the App Store, this is how I could setup Gmail on my Blackberry.

1. Go to App Store and download mySecureMail App.
2. In mySecureMail -->
1. Account Name: Any name you want to give.
2. Name: Your First name
3. Surname:
4. Email address.
5. Account Type: I selected IMAP for Gmail.
3. Incoming Server Details:
1. Server Address: imap.gmail.com
2. Encryption: SSL
3. Port: 993
4. Outgoing Server Details:
1. Encryption: TLS when available
2. Port: 587

All other setting are default. You should be able to get successful testing results.

After saving the configuration, you should be able to access all your emails through mySecureMail.
